The H.I.V.E logo
The Higher Institute of Villainous Education, or H.I.V.E., is the name of a top-secret school for training future villains.
Location[]
H.I.V.E was originally located in Iceland, but the school needed to be re-located to maintain secrecy.
Its new location is in an active volcano on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is supplied with energy from the volcano, through means of a geothermal power plant. The school has come close to being destroyed several times throughout the course of the books.
Headmaster and Teachers[]
The school was founded in the 1960s by Dr. Nero, who is also the school's headmaster. There are teaching staff there who teach various subjects, some of them being:
- Villainy Studies
- Biotechnology
- Political Corruption
- Tactical Education
- Stealth and Evasion
- Science and Technology
The school is divided into four different streams, each stream specialising in something different:
- Alpha stream (Natural leaders, the super villains of the future)
- Henchmen stream (Bodyguards and self-defense)
- Technical stream (Talented with computers and other electronic devices)
- Political/Financial stream (Good when it comes to bribery and corruption)
The different streams wear different coloured jumpsuits:
- Alpha stream wears black
- Henchmen stream wears blue
- Technical stream wears white
- Political/Financial stream wears grey

Description[]
The school is vast, with many corridors, rooms, halls and quarters. It has a single landing cavern where the Shroud stealth drop-ships land and take off.
There are seperate accomodation blocks for each stream in the school where they relax in their free time. There are also a large number of Standard Twin Habitation Units, or "cells" which two students share. A large main cavern is for school assemblies, which only rarely take place.
The school is power by a Geothermal Power Core, run from the heat inside the volcano, H.I.V.E.mind, an artificial intelligence (A.I.) helps to keep the school running smoothly.
